Mackenzie Higgins and Candice Neisen will explore the role that health information professionals and AI with human oversight play in protecting patient data during mergers and acquisitions

Mackenzie Higgins, RHIA, strategic growth manager, and Candice Neisen, MS, RHIA, director of professional services, will present Balancing AI and Human Expertise During Healthcare Mergers & Acquisitions on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 9:45 am CT.

During the education session, Higgins and Neisen will focus on crucial pre-conversion steps health information professionals should take and will delve into the challenges of duplicate records, effective patient matching, and the risks of over-reliance on AI. Best practices for ensuring data accuracy and compliance during M&A transitions will also be shared, along with interactive exercises that provide real-world insights into maintaining data integrity and resolving duplicates in M&A scenarios.

Julie Pursley, MSHI, RHIA, CHDA, FAHIMA, director of industry relations with Harris Data Integrity Solutions (Booth #826), will host a gathering in AHIMA’s Meet Up Hub in Booth #630, where she will lead a conversation on “Every Name Matters: 2025 Patient Naming Framework.” Taking place on Tuesday, October 14, at 3:25 p.m. CT, this event provides an opportunity for patient identity experts to network and hear the latest updates from the volunteer group leading the revision of the Naming Policy Framework, which is expected to be published in early 2026.
